Do you need a Counselor…

Do you need of a Counselor…

Where do I turn when I need help? When it seems like everyone and everything has failed me and I am lost for a solution. And yes, we all regardless of our mental state need counsel. So, where does the counsel we need come from?

Psalms 1:1, 2 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.”

Psalms 119:9-11 “How can a young man cleanse his way? BY TAKING HEED according to Your Word. With my whole heart have I sought You; Oh, let me not wonder from Your commandments. Your Word have I hid in my heart, that I may not sin against You|”

There is only one Counselor Who never changes His counsel down through the ages and He recorded His counsel for us!!!!!!!! So the question this morning is where will I turn for lasting and true counsel. Much counseling in our world treats the symptoms and not the root cause of the issue.

Our God and His word will search for the root cause rather than treating symptoms. If your counselor does not have Jesus as their Savoir they can only treat the symptoms because God’s truths seem foolish to them. Why is it that those who have not trusted Jesus as their Savior cannot give me counsel that will help me with my issues?

I Cor 2:14 “But the natural (unsaved) man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Why would God direct us to not listen to the counselors of the world? As with all important questions we find the answer in God’s word. Real and lasting truth cannot only be found there.

John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

The counselors of this world by not knowing Jesus as their Savior do not hold the word of God to be their source of knowledge and truth. So they counsel you with the best they have which can never get to the root cause of the problem and solve it. Their counsel is based on the wisdom of the world. Which is ever changing. God’s truths or absolutes never change.

Malachi 3:6a “”For I am the Lord, I do not change…”

While there are some government organizations that can offer assistance in trying times our ultimate and only pure source of help is found by seeking a loving God who wants to restore the relationship with Him that sin broke and ever recorded and protects His word of truth so that we have it.

Mat 5:18 “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one title will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.”

Enjoy your reading today and listen for its truths and directions. God’s word is our Counsel! If you need help check with your church to identify counselors who will guide you with truth that never changes and to counselors who understand where lasting help comes from. And remember, no reading or studying equals no enlightenment from God!

2 Tim. 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Who Packs your Parachute…

I John 5:11-13 “And this is the record that God has given to us Eternal Life and that life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life and he who has not the Son of God has not life. These things have I written unto you who believe on the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have Eternal Life and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

Who Packs your Parachute…

Charles Plumb, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, was a jet pilot in Vietnam. After 75 combat missions, his plane was destroyed by a surface-to-air missile. Plumb ejected and parachuted into enemy hands.

He was captured and spent 6 years in a communist Vietnamese prison. He survived the ordeal and now lectures on lessons learned from that experience.

One day, when Plumb and his wife were sitting in a restaurant, a man at another table came up and said, “You’re Plumb! You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, You were shot down!”

“How in the world did you know that?” asked Plumb.

“I packed your parachute,” the man replied.

Plumb gasped in surprise and gratitude. The man pumped his hand and said, “I guess it worked!”

Plumb assured him, “It sure did, if your chute hadn’t worked, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Plumb couldn’t sleep that night, thinking about that man. Plumb says, “I kept wondering what he might have looked like in a Navy uniform: a white hat, a bib in the back, and bell-bottom trousers. I wonder how many times I might have seen him and not even said “Good morning, How are you?” or anything because, you see, I was a fighter pilot and he was a sailor.

Plumb thought of the many hours the sailor had spent on a long wooden table in the bowels of the ship, carefully weaving the shrouds and folding the silks of each chute, holding in his hands each time the fate of someone he didn’t know.

Now, Plumb asks his audience, “Who’s packing your parachute?”

Everyone has someone who provides what they need to make it through the day.

Plumb also points out that he needed many kinds of parachutes when his plane was shot down over enemy territory-he needed his physical parachute, his mental parachute, his emotional parachute, and his spiritual parachute. He called on all these supports before reaching safety.

Sometimes in the daily challenges that life gives us, we miss what is really important. We may fail to say hello, please, or thank you, congratulate someone on something wonderful that has happened to them, give a compliment, or just do something nice for no reason.

The real parachute!

Mat 11:28 “Come unto Me all you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest…”

I John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you who believe on the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have Eternal Life and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

Where is the Holy Spirit…

Where is the Holy Spirit reside…

Rom 8:8, 9 “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you, now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.”

If Jesus is your Savior, then the Holy Spirit resides in you.

Our minds are not able to comprehend that fact but there is a simple reason why that is true. God said so!

Our minds simply cannot be what God’s mind is. He is our Creator. Which is why it is vital that we have faith in all that God says and desires for us to do.

The opposite is also true, no Holy Spirit = not saved!!

The lack of the Holy Spirit in the lives of most people explains a lot. Without God the Holy Spirit teaching me and without Jesus as my Savior and without God as my heavenly Father I am lost and one in this world trying to live on my own merits and strengths. There simply is no substitute for the fact that God drew us to Himself. Without the Holy Spirit the truths of God and the commands, encouragements and challenges all seem to be foolish. Which explains a whole lot about why some people speak and believe as they do.

I Cor 2:14 “Now the natural (unsaved) man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged.”

Hopefully the word of God is not foolishness to any of us this morning. People always have and always will need our Savior and we are His tools to tell them of their need. So, try being the salt of the earth today and maybe even helping someone receive the Holy Spirit.

When a Jewish religious leader came to Jesus to see if He was God and what the way to heaven was Jesus said; John 3:3 “You must be born again to see the Kingdom of God”.

I Cor 6:19, 20 “What? Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost Who is in you, Who you have of God, and YOU ARE NOT YOUR OWN? For you are bought with a price: THEREFORE glorify God in your body and in your spirit, who are God’s.”

So hopefully you do not feel that these truths are foolishness. If you do then you are probably not ‘Born Again’ and will not spend eternity with God. And the Holy Spirit does not live within you.

There is a solution……..

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Who is your Leader or Idle…

Who is your Leader or Idle…

So, who are you following this morning? Beware of following the Wrong Leader!

Peer pressure does not stop when you reach adult age. I recently was talking with a believer who said he was under intense pressure to conform to the standards set by the world. He said he felt as much pressure to conform as he did when he was 16 and out with the guys.

The big question is, just who am I supposed to follow daily?  Acknowledge it or not each of us makes a choice daily on what individual or what standard I will conform to for this day. If we do not say so our actions still betray us.

We have needs in our life and the word of God has the answer;

Mat 6:33a “But seek you first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness…”

Heb 12:1a “Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith…”

Serving Jesus is the priority and reason for living that will last for eternity and you may very well may be trying to walk in your own strength. You say, well that is all well and good but I cannot live the life I see Jesus asking me to. Yes you can because;

Phil 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens me.”

Beware of those who push you to do it the way everyone else is doing it! And yes it’s OK to be ‘intolerant’, if you are being intolerant based on God’s standards and if your attitude and response is tempered with love.  Just be lovingly intolerant which means you will be steadfast, immovable, ever abounding in the work of God.

A huge example is the topic of do all religions lead to God?

John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father, but by Me.”

Don’t be swayed by men. Being a follower of Jesus is not easy.

Beware of:
We’ve always done it that way!!
Everyone else is doing it!!

Don‘t be so intolerant!
Mat 15:6-9 “…you nullify the Word of God for the sake of your
tradition. You hypocrites| Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:

‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
They worship me in vain, their teachings are but rules taught by men.”

Col 2:8-9 “BEWARE lest anyone spoil you through philosophy and vain
deceit, after the traditions of men, after the ways of the world, and not after Christ.”

BEWARE the god of this world….

2 Corinthians 4:3-5 “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.”

Treating others as you would be Treated…

Matthew 25:40 “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me.”

Treating others as you would be Treated…

A few years ago a group of salesmen went to a regional sales convention in Chicago. They had assured their wives that they would be home in plenty of time for Friday night’s dinner. Well, as such things go, one thing led to another. The sales manager went longer than anticipated and the meeting ran overtime. Their flights were scheduled to leave out of Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, and they had to race to the airport. With tickets in hand, they barged through the terminal to catch their flight back home. In their rush, with tickets and briefcases, one of these salesmen inadvertently kicked over a table which held a display of baskets of apples. Apples flew everywhere.  Without stopping or looking back, they all managed to reach the plane in time for their nearly missed boarding. All but one.

He paused, took a deep breath, got in touch with his feelings, and experienced a twinge of compassion for the girl whose apple stand had been overturned.

He told his buddies to go on without him, waved goodbye, told one of them to call his wife when they arrived at their home destination and explain his taking a later flight. Then he returned to the terminal where the apples were all over the terminal floor. He was glad he did.

The 16 year old girl was totally blind! She was softly crying, tears running down her cheeks in frustration, and at the same time helplessly groping for her spilled produce as the crowd swirled about her, no one stopping, and no one to care for her plight.

The salesman knelt on the floor with her, gathered up the apples, put them into the baskets, and helped set the display up once more. As he did this, he noticed that many of them had become battered and bruised; these he set aside in another basket. When he had finished, he pulled out his wallet and said to the girl, “Here, please take this $20 for the damage we did. Are you okay?”

She nodded through her tears. He continued on with, “I hope we didn’t spoil your day too badly.” As the salesman started to walk away, the bewildered blind girl called out to him, “Mister….” He paused and turned to look back into those blind eyes. She continued,

“Are you Jesus?”

He stopped in mid-stride, and he wondered. Then slowly he made his way to catch the later flight with that question burning and bouncing about in his soul:”

Are you Jesus?”

Do people mistake you for Jesus? That’s our destiny, is it not? To be so much like Jesus that people cannot tell the difference as we live and interact with a world that is blind to His love, life and grace.

If we claim to know Him, we should live, walk and act as He would. Knowing Him is more than simply quoting Scripture and going to church. It’s actually living the Word as life unfolds day to day.

You are the apple of His eye even though we, too, have been bruised by a fall. He stopped what He was doing and picked you and me up on a hill called Calvary and paid in full for our damaged fruit.

Let’s start living like we are worth the price He paid.

John 13:35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye
have love one to another.”

Jesus is…

Easter and CHRISTianity…

Why is Easter so important to Biblical CHRISTianity? Easter proclaims that Jesus arose from the grave. Have any of the people many of the religions of this world worship ever arose from the grave? The answer is a loud, NO! The early and current Church needed the resurrection so God documented this miraculous event for us.

Listen to scripture and the importance of Easter.

I Cor 15:12-17 Now if Christ is preached that he has been raised from the dead,

how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, neither has Christ been raised: and if Christ has not been raised, then is our preaching vain, your faith also is vain. Yea, we are found false witnesses of God; because we witnessed of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, neither hath Christ been raised: and if Christ hath not been raised, your faith is vain; you are yet in your sins.

I Cor 15:20a “But now has Christ been raised from the dead…”

So this Easter, please remember to celebrate with family the importance of Easter. Without Easter we are dead in our sins!!!

Praise to our God and Savior, HE AROSE!!!

Listen to the Holy Spirit’s words via Matthews account and place yourself there and listen to what is said to us!

Mat 28:1-10 “Now late on the Sabbath day, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled away the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was as lightning, and his raiment

white as snow: and for fear of him the watchers did quake and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not; for I know that you seek Jesus, who hath been crucified. He is not here; for he is risen, even as he said. Come; see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples, He is risen from the dead; and lo,

He goes before you into Galilee; there shall you see Him: lo, I have told you. And they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring his disciples word. And behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and took hold of his feet, and worshipped him. Then saith Jesus unto them,

Fear not: go tell my brethren that they depart into Galilee, and there shall they see me.

Mat 28:19-20 “Go you therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world”.
