It is all about your Perspective…

Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”

It is all about your Perspective…

A little girl walked daily to and from school. Though the
weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made
her daily trek to the elementary school.

As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with
thunder and lightning. The mother of the little girl felt concerned that
her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school, and she
herself feared that the electrical storm might harm her child.

Following the roar of thunder, lightning, like a flaming sword,
would cut through the sky. Full of concern, the mother quickly got into
her car and drove along the route to her child’s school.

As she did so she saw her little girl walking along, but at each
flash of lightning, the child would stop, look and smile. Another and
another followed quickly, each with the little girl stopping, looking at
the streak of light and smiling.

Finally, the mother called her over to the car and asked, “What
are you doing?” The child answered, “God just keeps taking pictures of me.”

“And a little child shall lead them…”

That story is a great lead in for truths from God’s word. It reminds us that

God desires pure and unquestioning faith for us to first be ‘born again’ and then

to please Him during our walk as CHRISTians. The faith like little children display.

Here is the test. For that need you have this morning, what or Who are you trusting to fill it?

Luke 18:17 “Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.”

Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing unto him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seek after him.

Hebrews 10:38 “But my righteous one shall live by faith: And if he shrinks back, my soul hath no pleasure in him.”

Conversation with the hair stylist…

1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready
always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the
hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Conversation with the hair stylist…

A man went to his favorite shop to have his hair and his beard cut as always. He began to have a good conversation with the person who attended him. Like always they talked about many different things and various subjects. Suddenly, they touched on the subject of God.

The person said: “Look man, I don’t believe that God exists.”

“Why do you say that?” asked the customer.

Well, it’s so easy; you just have to go out in the street to realize that God does not exist. Oh, tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God exists, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can’t think of loving a God who permits all of these things.”

The customer thought for a moment, but he didn’t respond because he did not want to start an argument. Especially as he sat in the chair and the barber was using a scissors to trim his hair…

The worker finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the shop, he saw a man in the street with long hair and a beard. It was very long, and a long time since he had his hair cut.

The customer entered the shop again and he said to the barber: “You know what? Hair stylists do not exist.”

“How can you say they don’t exist?” asked the surprised stylist. “I am here and I am a one. Why, I just worked on you!”

“No!” the customer exclaimed. “Hair stylists don’t exist, because if they did there would be no people with long hair and beards like that man who is outside.”

“Ah, hair stylists do exist, what happens is that people do not come to me.”

“Exactly!”- affirmed the customer.”That’s the point! God does exist. What happens is people don’t go to Him and do not look for Him. They choose to do it their own way. And the way of mankind is sin. That’s why there’s so much pain and suffering in the world.”

Mark 8:36-37 “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

So who is to blame for all the ugliness in our world?

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Back to the beginning for the whole story.

Gen 3:13-19 “And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” So, the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.  And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”

WE ARE TO BLAME! Is there a solution?

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have life everlasting.”

Do you have the Son?

Do you need a Counselor…

Do you need of a Counselor…

Where do I turn when I need help? When it seems like everyone and everything has failed me and I am lost for a solution. And yes, we all regardless of our mental state need counsel. So, where does the counsel we need come from?

Psalms 1:1, 2 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.”

Psalms 119:9-11 “How can a young man cleanse his way? BY TAKING HEED according to Your Word. With my whole heart have I sought You; Oh, let me not wonder from Your commandments. Your Word have I hid in my heart, that I may not sin against You|”

There is only one Counselor Who never changes His counsel down through the ages and He recorded His counsel for us!!!!!!!! So the question this morning is where will I turn for lasting and true counsel. Much counseling in our world treats the symptoms and not the root cause of the issue.

Our God and His word will search for the root cause rather than treating symptoms. If your counselor does not have Jesus as their Savoir they can only treat the symptoms because God’s truths seem foolish to them. Why is it that those who have not trusted Jesus as their Savior cannot give me counsel that will help me with my issues?

I Cor 2:14 “But the natural (unsaved) man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Why would God direct us to not listen to the counselors of the world? As with all important questions we find the answer in God’s word. Real and lasting truth cannot only be found there.

John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

The counselors of this world by not knowing Jesus as their Savior do not hold the word of God to be their source of knowledge and truth. So they counsel you with the best they have which can never get to the root cause of the problem and solve it. Their counsel is based on the wisdom of the world. Which is ever changing. God’s truths or absolutes never change.

Malachi 3:6a “”For I am the Lord, I do not change…”

While there are some government organizations that can offer assistance in trying times our ultimate and only pure source of help is found by seeking a loving God who wants to restore the relationship with Him that sin broke and ever recorded and protects His word of truth so that we have it.

Mat 5:18 “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one title will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.”

Enjoy your reading today and listen for its truths and directions. God’s word is our Counsel! If you need help check with your church to identify counselors who will guide you with truth that never changes and to counselors who understand where lasting help comes from. And remember, no reading or studying equals no enlightenment from God!

2 Tim. 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

What if God…

Luke 9:23 “And he said unto all, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”

What if God…..

God couldn’t take the time to bless us today because we did not take the
time to thank Him yesterday?

What if?
God decided to stop leading us tomorrow because we didn’t follow Him today?

What if?
God didn’t walk with today because
we didn’t see it as His day?

What if?
We never saw another flower bloom because
we grumbled when God sent the rain?

What if?
God stopped loving and caring for us because
we stop loving and caring for others?

What if?
God took away the Bible because
we would not read it today?

What if?
God took away His message because
we failed to listen to His Messenger?

What if?
God didn’t send His only begotten Son because
He wanted us to pay the price for sin?

What if?
The door to the church was closed because
we did not open the door to our hearts?

What if?
God could not hear us today because
we did not listen to Him yesterday?

What if?
God answered our prayers the way we
answer His call to service?

What if?
God met our needs the way we give Him our lives?

Fortunately for us Gods attitude is not like ours.
It is one of unconditional love.

There is but One God…..

Ex 3:13-14 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, what is his name? What shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

Mat 20:28 “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served,
but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Who Packs your Parachute…

I John 5:11-13 “And this is the record that God has given to us Eternal Life and that life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life and he who has not the Son of God has not life. These things have I written unto you who believe on the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have Eternal Life and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

Who Packs your Parachute…

Charles Plumb, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, was a jet pilot in Vietnam. After 75 combat missions, his plane was destroyed by a surface-to-air missile. Plumb ejected and parachuted into enemy hands.

He was captured and spent 6 years in a communist Vietnamese prison. He survived the ordeal and now lectures on lessons learned from that experience.

One day, when Plumb and his wife were sitting in a restaurant, a man at another table came up and said, “You’re Plumb! You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, You were shot down!”

“How in the world did you know that?” asked Plumb.

“I packed your parachute,” the man replied.

Plumb gasped in surprise and gratitude. The man pumped his hand and said, “I guess it worked!”

Plumb assured him, “It sure did, if your chute hadn’t worked, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Plumb couldn’t sleep that night, thinking about that man. Plumb says, “I kept wondering what he might have looked like in a Navy uniform: a white hat, a bib in the back, and bell-bottom trousers. I wonder how many times I might have seen him and not even said “Good morning, How are you?” or anything because, you see, I was a fighter pilot and he was a sailor.

Plumb thought of the many hours the sailor had spent on a long wooden table in the bowels of the ship, carefully weaving the shrouds and folding the silks of each chute, holding in his hands each time the fate of someone he didn’t know.

Now, Plumb asks his audience, “Who’s packing your parachute?”

Everyone has someone who provides what they need to make it through the day.

Plumb also points out that he needed many kinds of parachutes when his plane was shot down over enemy territory-he needed his physical parachute, his mental parachute, his emotional parachute, and his spiritual parachute. He called on all these supports before reaching safety.

Sometimes in the daily challenges that life gives us, we miss what is really important. We may fail to say hello, please, or thank you, congratulate someone on something wonderful that has happened to them, give a compliment, or just do something nice for no reason.

The real parachute!

Mat 11:28 “Come unto Me all you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest…”

I John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you who believe on the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have Eternal Life and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

True Patriotism…

Mat 4:19 “Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

From John Newton’s Letters:

True Patriotism…

Dear friend,

Allow me to say, that it excites both my wonder and concern, that a Christian minister such as yourself, should think it worth his while to attempt political reforms. When I look around upon the present state of the nation, such an attempt appears to me, to be no less vain and foolish, than it would be to paint the cabin–while the ship is sinking! Or to decorate the parlor–while the house is on fire!

When our Lord Jesus was upon earth, He refused to get involved in disputes or politics, “Friend, who appointed me a judge or arbitrator over you?” Luke 12:14. “My kingdom is not of this world! If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight!” John 18:36. God’s children belong to a kingdom which is not of this world; they are strangers and pilgrims upon earth, and a part of their Scriptural character is, that they are the “quiet in the land.” Psalm 35:19.

Satan has many contrivances to amuse people, and to divert their thoughts from their real danger!

My dear sir, my prayer to God for you is–that He may induce you to employ the talents He has given you, in pointing out sin as the great cause and source of every existing evil; and to engage those who love and fear Him, (instead of wasting time in political speculations, for which very few of them are competent,) to sigh and cry for our abounding abominations, and to stand in the breach, by prayer, that God’s wrath may yet be averted, and our national mercies prolonged! This, I think, is true patriotism–the best way in which people in private life may serve their country.

I consider the ungodly as saws and hammers in the hand of the Lord. So far as they are His instruments, they will succeed–but not an inch further! Their wrath shall praise Him, and be subservient to His designs!

If our lot is so cast that we can exercise our ministry free from stripes, fines, imprisonments, and death–it is more than the gospel has promised to us! If Christians were quiet when under the cruel governments of Nero and other wicked persecutors, when they were hunted down like wild beasts–then we ought to be not only quiet but very thankful now! It was then accounted an honor to suffer for Christ and the ‘offence of the cross’!

Those are to be greatly pitied, who boast of their ‘liberty’–and yet they do not consider that they are in the most deplorable bondage as the slaves of sin and Satan, under the curse of God’s law and His eternal wrath! Oh! for a voice to reach their hearts, that they may know their true and dreadful state–and seek deliverance from their horrific thralldom! May you and I labor to direct them to the one thing, which is absolutely needful, and abundantly sufficient.

If I had the wisdom or influence to soothe the angry passions of mankind–I would gladly employ them! But I am a stranger and a pilgrim here in this world. My charter, my rights and my treasures, are all in heaven–and there my heart ought to be. In a very short time, I may be removed (and perhaps suddenly) into the unseen and eternal world–where all that now causes so much bustle upon earth–will be of no more importance to me–than the events which took place among the antediluvians!

In the hour, when death shall open the door into eternity–many things which now assume an ‘air of importance, will be found as light and unsubstantial as a child’s dream!

How crucial then, is it for me–to be found watching, with my lamp burning, diligently engaged in my proper calling! For the Lord has not called me to set governments right–but to preach the gospel, to proclaim the glory of His name, and to endeavor to win souls! “Let the dead bury their own dead–but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God!” Luke 9:60. Happy is that servant, whom his Master finds so doing, when He returns!

As you have forced me to respond–both duty and love have obliged me to be faithful and free in giving you my thoughts.

I recommend you to the care and blessing of the great Shepherd and Savior; and remain for His sake, your affectionate friend and brother,

John Newton

Mat 28:19,20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”Amen.”

Where is the Holy Spirit…

Where is the Holy Spirit reside…

Rom 8:8, 9 “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you, now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.”

If Jesus is your Savior, then the Holy Spirit resides in you.

Our minds are not able to comprehend that fact but there is a simple reason why that is true. God said so!

Our minds simply cannot be what God’s mind is. He is our Creator. Which is why it is vital that we have faith in all that God says and desires for us to do.

The opposite is also true, no Holy Spirit = not saved!!

The lack of the Holy Spirit in the lives of most people explains a lot. Without God the Holy Spirit teaching me and without Jesus as my Savior and without God as my heavenly Father I am lost and one in this world trying to live on my own merits and strengths. There simply is no substitute for the fact that God drew us to Himself. Without the Holy Spirit the truths of God and the commands, encouragements and challenges all seem to be foolish. Which explains a whole lot about why some people speak and believe as they do.

I Cor 2:14 “Now the natural (unsaved) man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged.”

Hopefully the word of God is not foolishness to any of us this morning. People always have and always will need our Savior and we are His tools to tell them of their need. So, try being the salt of the earth today and maybe even helping someone receive the Holy Spirit.

When a Jewish religious leader came to Jesus to see if He was God and what the way to heaven was Jesus said; John 3:3 “You must be born again to see the Kingdom of God”.

I Cor 6:19, 20 “What? Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost Who is in you, Who you have of God, and YOU ARE NOT YOUR OWN? For you are bought with a price: THEREFORE glorify God in your body and in your spirit, who are God’s.”

So hopefully you do not feel that these truths are foolishness. If you do then you are probably not ‘Born Again’ and will not spend eternity with God. And the Holy Spirit does not live within you.

There is a solution……..

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
