Who can I Trust…

Exodus 20:3-4 “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.  Thou
shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that
is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the
earth.”

Who can I trust in?

God created us to live in a social environment, and to be “knit together
in love.”  I know that I need other people.  But I also know that I’m a
sinner (saved by grace through faith) living in a fallen world full of sinful people.
I know that we have an adversary who constantly seeks to steal, kill, and destroy.

In the final analysis, I must place my complete trust in the Living God and in
Him alone.  The danger in trusting other people is that they can become gods.

If we are careful, we can start living and planning our life based on “their”
leadership, “their” opinions, and “their” performance.  And when things don’t go as
planned or hoped, we are all capable of going into an emotional, mental,
physical, or spiritual tailspin.

Let’s face it.  Who among us has had a career or a business plan
that panned out “perfectly?”  Who among us has not experienced major business
curve balls?

Perhaps you were just overlooked for a promotion or raise.
Perhaps you are being mistreated by an unreasonable boss.
Perhaps a valued colleague just made a big blunder-and you’re caught in
the painful aftermath.
Perhaps you expected a customer to sign a big contract, but it fell
through at the eleventh hour.
Perhaps you expected to get paid on-time by a client, but you’re still waiting.
Perhaps your company was just sold, and you’re finding it difficult to
adapt to the new culture.
Perhaps your company just announced that your division is closing or
moving elsewhere…or going through another
infamous “reorganization.”

Be of good cheer: God sees everything and knows everything.  Your 100%
solid Shield of Faith in the Lord will quench all the fiery darts and equip
you to keep moving forward regardless of what other people do or don’t do!
God has a wonderful way of working things out for good-often in mysterious
and unexpected ways!

“Trust and obey…there’s just no other way…to be happy in
Jesus…than to trust and obey!”

your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

What Motivates a Parent…

What Motivates a Parent…

To understand the logic that motivates a parent, I will tell them:

I loved you enough…
to ask where you were going, with whom,
and what time you would be home.

I loved you enough…
to insist that you save your money and buy
a bike for yourself even though we
could afford to buy one for you.

I loved you enough…
to be silent and let you discover that your
new best friend was a creep.

I loved you enough…
to make you take a Milky Way back to the
drugstore (with a bite out of it) and tell the clerk,
“I stole this yesterday and want to pay for it. ”

I loved you enough…
to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned
your room, a job that would have taken 15 minutes.

I loved you enough…
to let you see anger, disappointment and tears in my eyes.
Children must learn that their parents aren’t perfect.

I loved you enough…
to let you assume the responsibility for your actions
even when the penalties were so harsh they almost
broke my heart.

But most of all,

I loved you enough…
to say NO when I knew you would hate me for it.
Those were the most difficult battles of all.
I’m glad I won them, because in the end you won, too.

I loved you enough…
To let you hate me at times.

I loved you enough…
to tell you about Jesus and His love………..
To really understand love, you must understand how someone could
sacrifice their only Son to pay the debt of someone who chose to break off fellowship with Him.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.”

With Jesus as your Savior then ALL IS GOOD…

Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them
that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

With Jesus as your Savior then ALL IS GOOD!

The story is told of a king in Africa who had a close friend
with whom he grew up.  The friend had a habit of looking at every
situation that ever occurred in his life (positive or negative) and
remarking, “This is good!”

One day the king and his friend were out on a hunting expedition.
The friend would load and prepare the guns for the king. The friend had
apparently done something wrong in preparing one of the guns, for after
taking the gun from his friend, the king fired it and his thumb was blown off.

Examining the situation the friend remarked as usual, “This is good!”

To which the king replied, “No, this is NOT good!” and proceeded
to send his friend to jail.

About a year later, the king was hunting in an area that he
should have known to stay clear of. Cannibals captured him and took them
to their village. They tied his hands, stacked some wood, set up a stake
and bound him to the stake. As they came near to set fire to the wood, they
noticed that the king was missing a thumb. Being superstitious, they
never ate anyone that was less than whole. So untying the king, they
sent him on his way.

As he returned home, he was reminded of the event that had taken
his thumb and felt remorse for his treatment of his friend. He went
immediately to the jail to speak with his friend. “You were right,” he
said, “it was good that my thumb was blown off. And he proceeded to tell
the friend all that had just happened. “And so I am very sorry for
sending you to jail for so long. It was bad of me to do this.”

“No” his friend replied, “This is good!”

“What do you mean, “This is good?” How could it be good that I sent my
friend to jail for a year?”

“If I had NOT been in jail, I would have been with you when you were
captured.”

Situations may not always seem pleasant while we are in them,
but the promise of God is clear. If we love Him and live our lives
according to His precepts, even that which seems to be bleak and
hopeless will be turned by God for His glory and our benefit.

Romans 8:28-30 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”

If Jesus is your Savior then ALL IS GOOD!

Breadfast anyone…Real Love…

I John 4:10a “This is love: not that we loved God, but that…

Breakfast anyone…Real Love…

Six-year-old Brandon decided one Saturday morning to fix his
parents’ pancakes. He found a big bowl and spoon, pulled a chair
to the counter, opened the cupboard and pulled out the heavy flour
canister, spilling it on the floor. He scooped some of the flour
into the bowl with his hands, mixed in most of a cup of milk and
added some sugar, leaving a floury trail on the floor which by now
had a few tracks left by his kitten.

Brandon was covered with flour and getting frustrated. He
wanted this to be something very good for Mom and Dad, but it was
getting very bad.

He didn’t know what to do next, whether to put it all into the
oven or on the stove (and he didn’t know how the stove worked!).
Suddenly he saw his kitten licking from the bowl of mix and
reached to push her away, knocking the egg carton to the floor.

Frantically he tried to clean up this monumental mess but
slipped on the eggs, getting his pajamas white and sticky.

And just then he saw Dad standing at the door. Big crocodile
tears welled up in Brandon’s eyes. All he’d wanted to do was
something good, but he’d made a terrible mess. He was sure a
scolding was coming, maybe even a spanking.

But his father just watched him. Then, walking through the
mess, he picked up his crying son, hugged him and loved him,
getting his own pajamas white and sticky in the process.

That’s how God deals with us. We try to do something good
in life, but it turns into a mess. Our marriage gets all sticky
or we insult a friend or we can’t stand our job or our health
goes sour. Sometimes we just stand there in tears because we
can’t think of anything else to do. That’s when God picks us
up and loves us and forgives us, even though some of our mess
gets all over Him. But just because we might mess up, we can’t
stop trying to “make pancakes,” for God or for others.

I John 4:10 “This is love: not that we loved God, but that He
loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

New Year’s Resolution…

New Year’s Resolution…

We have all heard that it’s good to make a New Year’s Resolution and then to even keep it which most of us struggle with. There is one resolution that has eternal consequences if we do not make it. And the beauty of it is that once you make it you do not need any of your efforts to have it be effective. That resolution is to ask Jesus to be your Savior and Lord of your life. And for those who have already been ‘born again’ you too can make a resolution for the New Year in regards to your serving Jesus. You see, we all will serve either self and this world or Jesus. Yes, ‘born again’ Christians run the risk of serving self and the world also so do not think you are immune to it.

For all of us whether we are ‘born again’ or not we struggle with the pace of this world controlling us. “Haste makes waste” is not a verse of scripture but it does include some biblical wisdom. I am convinced that one of satans ways of distracting us and keeping us from thinking about God is to make us so busy we think we do not have time for a relationship with our heavenly Father. Especially in the fast paced age we live in. For our days to be spiritually complete we must start them with the One who can accomplish that in our lives. Our God designed us to be busy so not working or having a full schedule is not the answer. The question becomes what are my priorities today and which priority do I start my day with. Now that we have touched on one problem let’s see what the solution is.

II Thes 3:10, 11 “For even when we were with you, we commanded you this; If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies.”

Mat 6:33a “But seek you first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…”

When it comes to where you will spend eternity you must make sure that speed or complacency are not involved in the decision. When you’re moving too fast you tend to make a lot of mistakes. At least that is my experience. My many experiences. And you can end up going very fast – but in the wrong direction!

Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death.”

For those who do not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior there is a need to find your way. And it must be at the top of our priority planning list.

John 14:6 “And Jesus said unto them, I am the way, the truth and the life, no one can come unto the Father but by Me.”

So slow down today and…….

Hebrews 12:1-2 ” Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

You may have just found the one New Year’s resolution that makes sense for eternity.

For those who are ‘born again’ here is a great New Year’s resolution.

Luke 9:23 “Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”

John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

JESUS IS COMING A SECOND TIME……………….Are You Ready…

Choose you this Day…

Joshua 24:15a “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you will serve; …”

Choose you this Day!

This morning think of all the people and organizations asking for your
priorities. They request and some even demand your attention, time and monies. Some are worthwhile while many are not.

They include the company you work for, your family, the bank, the local and national charities, your friends, your 401K, your immediate job, your health, your????

Here is the telling question. Did serving Jesus enter into your thought process? And if it did was it first or someplace down the list? If it was there or what place it was on the list says a lot about where our focus in life really is….! God’s desire for us is;

Mat 6:33a “But SEEK you FIRST the kingdom of God and its righteousness…”

Joshua 22:5 “Take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which
Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to LOVE the Lord your God,
and to WALK in all His ways, and to KEEP His commandments, and to CLEAVE unto Him, and to SERVE Him with all your heart and with all your soul
.”

In a world demanding your priorities remember only one will last for eternity. I challenge myself and encourage you this morning to…..

Joshua 24:15 “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites (your location in this world), in whose land you dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Just put your community in place of the Amorites. It’s real and applies to you and me!

The choice on who and what we will serve is all up to us. So…………….

Romans 12:1,2 “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

First you must start by;

John 3:3 “Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again,[a] you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

John 14:6 “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me”

If you are not sure if you are born again try reading the Gospel of John for the answer! Time is short and it is never to late!

James 4:14 “whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

Choose you this Day…

Joshua 24:15a “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day
whom you will serve; …”

Choose you this Day!

Questions and comments, we hear daily from others and sometimes from within.

How can I achieve a higher salary?
How do I increase my 401K?

How can I get that perfect body?
Can I achieve the status of being a millionaire?

Why is this happening to me? I deserve more…
How do I get that really fancy new car?
Why can’t I have a new 4,000 sq. ft home in the secluded woods on 30 acres next to my own lake?
When should I sell and when should I buy?
Is life really all about possessions and self?
So what are my goals in life for me and for my family?

Choose you this day as to whom you will serve…! God does remind us what items have eternal significance.

Mat 6:19-21,24 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in & steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroy and where thieves do not break in & steal. FOR WHERE YOUR TREASURE IS THERE YOUR HEART WILL BE ALSO. NO ONE CAN SERVE TWO MASTERS; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

How about some questions pleasing to God?

What must I do to be saved?
How can I help someone who is struggling today?
How can I help someone to see Jesus today?

Lord, thank you for this difficulty I am going through for you to teach me that trials bring spiritual growth!
Lord, what would You have me to do for your glory?????

Our example for setting life priorities is Jesus.

Luke 22:42 “Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless, not my will, but thine, be done.”

Having nice things in and of itself is not wrong. Letting things or money be your controlling focus can only cause heartache in the long run and is out of line with God’s will for our lives. Letting God’s priorities be your focus provides peace and contentment that our world cannot understand.

Phil 4:6, 7 “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

So, where are your priorities this morning?

Joshua 24:15 “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Just put your community in place of the Amorites. It’s real and applies to you and me!

The choice on whom and what I will serve is up to me. So…………….

Mat 6:33, 34 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Have a great day in service of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus!!!
