Do you know Jesus…

Mat 11:28-30 “Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Do you know Jesus….

Have you tasted what a daily relationship with Jesus is all about? You say, I know Jesus was born, died and rose again and even know Him as my Savior.  And I attend a Christian Church. But I ask again. Have you tasted what a DAILY RELATIONSHIP with Jesus is all about?

Subject: Jesus

At one University each year they have what is called “Church Day”. It is a day when all the members of a certain denomination in the area are invited to the school because they want the Church dollars to keep coming in. On this day each one is to bring a lunch to be eaten outdoors in a grassy picnic area. Every “Church Day” the school would invite one of the greatest minds to lecture in the theological education center, and then eat their lunches outdoors.  One year they invited a popular speaker.

He spoke for two and one-half hours proving that the resurrection of Jesus was false. He quoted scholar after scholar and book after book. He concluded that since there was no such thing as the historical resurrection the religious tradition of the church was groundless, emotional mumbo-jumbo, because it was based on a relationship with a risen Jesus, who, in fact, never rose from the dead in any literal sense. He then asked if there were any questions.

After about 30 seconds, an old, dark skinned preacher with a head of short-cropped, woolly white hair stood up in the back of the auditorium. “Docta, I got one question,” he said as all eyes turned toward him. He reached into his sack lunch and pulled out an apple and began eating it. “Sir …” CRUNCH, MUNCH … “My question is a simple question, “CRUNCH, MUNCH … “Now I ain’t never read them books you read … ” CRUNCH,MUNCH … “and I can’t recite the Scriptures in the original Greek … “CRUNCH, MUNCH … “I don’t know nothin’ about Niebuhr and Heidegger …”CRUNCH, MUNCH … He continued with the apple. “All I wanna know is: This apple I just ate — was it bitter or sweet?”

He paused for a moment and answered in exemplary scholarly fashion: “I cannot possibly answer that question, for I haven’t tasted your apple.”

The white-haired preacher dropped the core of his apple into his crumpled paper bag, looked up at the speaker and said calmly, “Neither have you tasted my Jesus.”

The 1,000 plus in attendance could not contain themselves. The auditorium erupted with applause and cheers. He thanked his audience and promptly left the platform.

Have you tasted Jesus? In Psalms 34:8 we read: “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.” If you have, then rejoice in the hope of the resurrection that your faith in Him brings.

Remember one important thing. God created the Church and we are to use our spiritual gifts first within it and we are to serve Jesus in it. It only becomes a problem when some men turn it into their church versus Jesus church. So do not use this challenge as an excuse to stop fellowshipping. You are needed by your Savior in His Church. Have a great day developing your relationship with Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!

Heb 10:23-25 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Rom 1:20 “For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity, have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made. So men are without excuse.

Jesus, the Great ‘I Am’…

JESUS, THE GREAT ‘I AM’…

In our world today, there are many religions with some being among the largest in our world that do not believe that Jesus is Who He is and proclaimed to be. Many believe that Jesus was a great man and even a great Prophet but not God.

To find the truth we need only to listen to Jesus Himself and understand where He is today. It comes down to faith and we know without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb 11:6). Most importantly do not listen to what any man teaches, or religion, if the teaching differs from scripture. If you believe the Bible to be from God (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:21-22) and protected down through the ages (Mat 5:18) so that mankind cannot change it then listen to God. As John 8:32 says; ‘you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.”

In every chapter of the Gospel of John the Apostle, Jesus as One part of God is proclaimed. In John He is given the title of ‘the Word’, the ‘One and Only’, the ‘Lamb of God’, the ‘Son of God’, the ‘True Bread’, the ‘Life’, the ‘Resurrection’ and the ‘Vine’.  Jesus proclaims His preexistence and His eternal deity. The following are just a few of the places in the Bible showing that Jesus is God and the great ‘I Am’.

  • John 1:1-5 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
  • John 6:35 “And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never ”
  • John 8:12 “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
  • John 9:5b “…I am the light of the world”
  • John 10:7 “Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.”
  • John 10:11 ““I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”
  • John 10:14-15 “I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.”
  • John 11:25-26 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
  • John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
  • John 15:5-6 ““I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”
  • Hebrews 10:12 “But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God”
  • Hebrews 12:2 “looking unto Jesus, the]author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God

John the Baptist not John the Apostle was sent to earth to proclaim the coming of God the Son as our Savior. While we are not John the Baptist, we do have a similar ministry (Mat 28:18-20) to proclaim the Gospel and that Jesus is coming again.

  • John 1:22-23 “Then they said to him, “Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?” He said: “I am ‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
“Make straight the way of the Lord,”’ as the prophet Isaiah

The most important fact proclaiming Jesus to be God is that He is no longer in the grave as He would be if He were a mere human. HE ROSE FROM THE GRAVE and today is at God the Fathers right hand making intercession for the sinners we are. If Jesus were just a great man or a Prophet His body would still be in the grave.

  • 1 Corinthians 15:13-14, 17 “But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!”
  • Acts 4:12 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

JESUS IS GOD, ARE YOU READY IF HE WERE TO COME BACK TODAY?

  • 1 John 2:28 “And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.”

John 3:16…What does it mean…

John 3:16″For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son …”

 John 3:16…What does it mean…

In the city of Chicago, one cold, dark night, a blizzard was
setting in. A little boy was selling newspapers on the corner. People were in and out of the cold.  The little boy was so cold that he wasn’t trying to sell many papers.

A policeman walked up to him and said, “You wouldn’t
happen to know where a poor boy could find a warm place to sleep
tonight would you? I’ve heard you sleep in a box up around the corner
there and down the alley and its awful cold in there, especially at night.
You need a warm place to stay.” “You go down the street to that big white house and you knock on the door. When they come out the door you just say John 3:16 and they will let
you in.”

So he did, he walked up the steps to the door and knocked on
the door and a lady answered. He looked up and said, “John 3:16.”
The lady said “Come on in, Son.” She took him in and she sat him down
in a split bottom rocker in front of a great big old fireplace and
she went off.  He sat there for a while, and thought to himself
“John 3:16….  I don’t   understand it, but it sure makes a cold boy
warm.”   Later she came back and asked him

“Are you hungry?”  He said, “Well, just a little. I haven’t
eaten in a couple of days and I guess I could stand a little bit of
food.”  The lady took him in the kitchen and sat him down to a table
full of wonderful food. He ate and ate until he couldn’t eat any more.
Then he thought to himself “John 3:16… Boy, I sure don’t understand
it, but it sure makes a hungry boy full.”

She took him upstairs to a bathroom to a huge bathtub filled
with warm water and he sat there and soaked for a while. As he soaked,
he thought to himself, “John 3:16… I sure don’t understand it, but
it sure makes a dirty boy clean.

You know, I’ve not had a bath, a real bath, in my whole life.
The only bath I ever had was when I stood in front of that big old
fire hydrant as they flushed it out.” The lady came in and got him,
and took him to a room and tucked him into a big old feather bed and
pulled the covers up around his neck and kissed him goodnight and
turned out the lights.

As he laid in the darkness and looked out the window at the
snow coming down on that cold night he thought to himself, “John 3:16…
I don’t understand it, but it sure makes a tired boy rested.”

The next morning she came back up and took him down again to that
same big table full of food. After he ate she took him back to that
same big old split bottom rocker in front of the fireplace and she took
a big old Bible and sat down in front of him and she looked up at and
she asked, “Do you understand John 3:16?”

He said, “No, Ma’am, I don’t. The first time I ever heard it was
last night when the policeman told me to use it.”   She opened the Bible
to John 3:16 and she began to explain to him about Jesus. Right there
in front of that big old fireplace he accepted Jesus as his Savior.

He sat there and thought, “John 3:16. I don’t understand it, but it
but it sure makes a lost boy feel safe.”  You know, I have to confess I
don’t understand it either, how God would be willing to send His Son to
die for me, and how Jesus would agree to do such a thing.

I don’t understand it either, but it sure does make life worth living.

John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the
world through him might be saved.  He that believeth on him is not condemned:
but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed
in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

A Real Friend…

Proverbs 18.24 “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks close than a brother.”

A Real Friend…

A big city preacher on vacation stopped in to visit the country church where he was staying. He was quite impressed by the tradition of everyone turning around and shaking hands and greeting the other worshipers seated nearby. This big city preacher had long felt that the church he ministered at was a bit stuffy and could use a bit of friendliness.

So he announced on the first Sunday after returning home that the following Sunday they were going to initiate this custom. At the close of that same service, a man turned around to the lady behind him and said, “Good Morning”.

She looked at him, shocked by his boldness, and said, “I beg your pardon! That friendliness business doesn’t start until next Sunday.”

“A friend is someone who thinks you’re a good egg even though you’re slightly cracked.”

“A fair-weather friend is one who is not around when times turn difficult.”

“A friend is a person who can step on your toes without messing your shine.”

“A friend is a person who goes around saying nice things about you behind your back.”

“A friend is a person with whom I may think aloud” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

“To speak painful truth through loving words is friendship” – Henry Ward Beecher

“A friend is one who knows all about you and loves you just the same” – Elbert Green Hubbard

“A friend is one who knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts who you have become and still, gently invites you to grow.”

“Insomuch as anyone pushes you nearer to God, he or she is your friend.”

Proverbs 18.24 “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks close than a brother.”

Who is your best Friend?

God is not a Generic Deith…He is…

God is not a Generic Deity…He is….

We hear of many believing in a “Higher Power” or even in God. Some say that He is the same God for all religions. But the question is, just who am I placing my faith in and who is my God? Is He the God of the Bible and creation?

According to God the Way to heaven is narrow and there is only one way which is in contradiction to the philosophy of most today and most religions of our world. Listen to absolute truth from the One True God.

John 14:6 “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

Matt 7:13, 14 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

So be careful. It’s not being judgmental to help someone find the God of the Scriptures. It is compassionate and caring!!!!

Romans 14:11 “For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”

PRAISE THE NAME OF JESUS!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great day serving Him!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CHRISTians look Strange to our World…Why is that…

In our world today if you are a true Christian you will be seen as a strange bird and even viewed as hateful and narrow minded. First we must understand that the worlds definition of a Christian and God’s definition as recorded in His word the Bible differ greatly.

The world sees a Christian as anyone attending a church with the name of Jesus in its teachings. Many do not proclaim the whole word of God. The bible says a Christian does not involve the denomination you attend. Check it out for yourself by doing a word search of the Bible and you find not one of the denominations of the world. God’s definition is anyone from any country or race who is ‘born again’. For help in understanding what it means to be ‘born again’ check out the following;

  • The Gospel of John where Jesus tells a religious leader what it means
  • Ephians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5, Galatians 2:16-21 where God tells us how many of our good deeds are requird to ‘born again’. Just of few of God’s thoughts on our lives and our deeds needed to be ‘born again’.
  • So, why are CHRISTians seen as strange to this world?
    • Rom 1:21-23 “…because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man–and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.”
    • John 3:19 “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
  • What is the ministry of Biblical Christainity while on this earth?
    • Matt 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”
    • Matt 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
      • Salt seasons and points out sin. Darkness does not like to be exposed.
    • We are to be different understanding the vast majority of our world will choose the ways of the world in an attempt to restore the broken relationship with God that sin causes;
    • Matt 7:13-14 “”Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
  • Our world will consider Christians ‘Strange’ if we point out sin for what it is and do not do the same.
    • 2 Tim 3:12 “Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”
    • Prov 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of ”

So, do not feel bad this morning if our world hates or persecutes you when you stand up for Jesus and His truths. It very well may mean you are a true ‘born again’ disciple of Jesus and suffering because of it. Be of good courage because;

Romans 5:3 “And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;”

James 4:14 “…whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

Then comes eternity……

John 14:1-3 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.  In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also”

HE IS RISEN……..

The Great “I Am”…

The Great “I Am”

Here is the question for this morning. Who or Whom in your life is the Great “I Am”? When it comes down to it there are only two choices. It is either self or God. First and foremost, we must decide to be honest with ourselves. Our actions of the day typically are the great indicators of who or Who I have chosen to serve today. Did I start the day with prayer and some form of devotion? Is my goal today to broaden my worth or to assist others? Those type of questions will reveal what my answer to our first question is. Of course, once again, it requires I be brutally honest with myself.

Jesus offers us eternal reward, happiness, fulfillment and all the treasures that this world and self cannot. It will help us make the correct choice if we reflect on Who Jesus is. In God’s scriptures Jesus is given titles such as; The Word, Lamb of God, Son of God, Truth, Bread of Life, Resurrection, Vine and of course ‘I Am’. The name of Jesus and His titles affirm His preexistence and deity. The beauty being that He desires a relationship with us again that our sin broke. Listen to Jesus words recorded in the Gospel of John and His offer to us. Then you make the choice;

  • John 6:35 “And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst”
  • John 8:12 “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
  • John 10:7 “Then Jesus said to them again, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep'”
  • John 10:11-14 ” I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.”
  • John 11:25 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.”
  • John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
  • John 14:1,2 ” “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit”

Peer pressure and the expectations and controls of the society around us can influence our choices. That having been said we must remember that it remains our choice. We can never blame anyone or anything for the choices we make.

I Cor 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Joshua is a great example of making choices that are dramatically different than the society and peers who surrounded him. Out of a couple of million people of his generation who God rescued from Egypt he was one of only two who made the choice to serve God and could enter the promised land. Yes, I said two out of a couple of million. Wow, what a great example for us. So, what was his choice? Joshua choose to serve the great ‘I AM’. I am sure for Joshua it would have been easier to go with the flow and the crowd but he knew that is not what God wanted from his life. Listen to the stand he took and be assured you can do the same. Even when everyone around you objects!

Joshua 24:15 “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites (your country, state, city, etc.), in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Who or Whom in your life is the Great “I Am” this morning? Put your check mark on one or the other.

_____ Jesus

_____ Self

Are you Committed…

Are you Committed!

The past cannot be changed but the future can.  The things we regret having done or regret having said remain with us and with those we have offended. While they should be our reminder of what not to do they should not keep us from doing what is right for the future.

Phil 3:13, 14 “Brethren I count not myself to have apprehended: But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are ahead.  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

Phil 4:1 “Therefore my brethren … stand fast in the Lord…”

Life’s biggest change comes when we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior and the second biggest change when we commit our life to His service.

Luke 9:23 “And he said unto all, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”

Have you accepted His gift of salvation through the sacrifice of the cross so you can stand fast??

Eph 2:8, 9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith and THAT NOT OF YOURSELVES, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone would boast.”

Have you committed your life to Him? It is never too late……………….

Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you PRESENT your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”

Many ‘born again’ believers have never made that presentation. Have you?
