Stick Foot in Mouth Syndrome…

Psalms 141:3 “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.”

Stick Foot in Mouth Syndrome…

Do you find yourself wondering why you said that and how can you take it back? Once words are released, they can never be taken back. Yes, you can apologize which is very often appropriate, but the sting and memory remains. The tongue frequently is not such a wonderful thing and too often very dangerous…

James 3:5, 6 “Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles| and the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course
of nature.”

Prov 10:19, 20 “In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver;”

I all too frequently relate well to the sticking of one’s foot in the mouth syndrome….

The solution….

Prov 21:23 “Whoso keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.”

There is one big helper in our effort to keep our feet out of our mouths. Here is the revealing question for you this morning. Do you spend more time listening than talking? God would have us to be better listeners than speakers which is why we have two ears and one mouth. It’s never too late to change….LISTEN to this!

James 1:19 “Finally my brethren let everyone be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to wrath.”

Two Edged Sword…

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Two Edged Sword…

Wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone?
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we flipped through it several times a day or an hour?
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it?
What if we gave it to kids as gifts?
What if we used it when we traveled?
What if we used it in case of emergency?

What if it is the only book God authored and the only one He protects so man cannot distort it?

What if it is the one source of Absolute truths that do not change down through the ages?

What if it contains all the answers to my problems?

This is something to make you go….hmm…where is my Bible?

Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phone, we don’t have to worry about our Bible being out of date or disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill. Makes you stop and think, “Where are my priorities and do they line up with God’s word to me?

Mal 3:6a “For I am the Lord, I do not change…”

And – NO DROPPED CALLS OR IGNORED TEXT MESSAGES!

II Tim 3:16, 17 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

So, when was the last time you truly searched God’s word………………………? Today is the perfect time to start or restart!!!

Hope for America…

Hope for America!

There is hope for America if …

II Chronicles 7:14 “And My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

His people will need to start the revival…

How does your life stack up? It is sin to be conformed to this world’s standards and with sin comes separation from the power and blessings of Jesus!!! Being salt and light is not only not easy, but it is most often not accepted in our world.

2 Tim 3:12 “Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”

The word sin is not pleasant nor is it supposed to be. It also is not just for those in the past. Sin is as ugly today and as offensive to God today as it was with Adam and Eve. If the world or the majority of our world says that in the interest of human’s rights that sin is ok, do you then accept it? Challenging question, especially with the voting season upon us. Listen to what God says;

Mark 8:36-37 “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

Let us join with the Holy Spirit in urging ourselves to…

Rom 12:1,2 “I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, TO PRESENT YOUR BODIES a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and
perfect.”

The most immediate need for America is not a balanced budget or having my candidate be in office. There is a much greater need and urgency. As a believer my view and goals in life must be different then the world and country and state and city and neighborhood I live in. I do believe our nation is running to big trouble by the decisions our politicians are making but I believe our God is sovereign in the affairs of men and able to change and direct our times and events to meet His plans.

With that view my focus must be to know and love the Lord our God and be light and salt to a lost and dying world. This morning remember, serving the King of Kings may be the most meaningful thing you do in your life.

Check out the first Church in the book of Acts to see what their focus was.

With that in mind remember to ……

I Tim 2:1,2 “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in  authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.”

The Road of Life…

Heb 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

The Road of Life

At first, I saw God as my observer, my judge, keeping track of the things I did wrong, so as to know whether I merited heaven or hell when I die. He was out there sort of like a president. I recognized His picture when I saw it, but I really didn’t know Him. But later on when I trusted Christ as my Savior, it seemed as though life was rather like a bike ride, but it was a tandem bike, and I noticed that Christ was in the back helping me pedal. I don’t know just when it was that He suggested we change places, but life has not been the same since.

When I had control, I thought I knew the best way. It was rather boring, but predictable and it was the shortest distance between two points, or so I thought. But when He took the lead, He knew delightful long cuts, up mountains, and through rocky places at breakneck speeds. It was all I could do to hang on!

Even though it looked like madness, He gently said, “Pedal!” I worried and was anxious and asked, “Where are you taking me?” He smiled and was patient with me, and I started to learn to trust. I forgot my boring life and entered into the adventure, and when I’d say, “I’m scared,” He’d lean back and touch my hand. I gained love, peace, acceptance and joy; gifts to take on my journey, My Lord’s and mine. And we were off again.

He said, “Give the gifts away. They’re extra baggage, too much weight.” So, I did, to the people we met, and I found that in giving I received, and still our burden was light.

I did not trust Him, at first, in control of my life. I thought He’d wreck it; but he knows bike secrets, knows how to make it bend to take sharp corners, knows how to jump to clear high rocks, knows how to fly to shorten, scary passages. And I am learning to shut up and pedal in the strangest places, and I’m beginning to enjoy the view and the cool breeze on my face with my delightful constant companion, Jesus Christ.

And when I’m sure I just can’t do it anymore, He just smiles and says… “Pedal.”

Luke 9:23 “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”

YOUR CROSS

Whatever your cross
Whatever your pain
There will always be sunshine.
After the rain

Protect your Marriage…

Gen. 2:24 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be
joined to his wife, and they shall be one flesh.”

Protect your Marriage…

* Make sure you develop oneness in your marriage in all areas of the relationship:
* Do not have too many individualized activities. Going in the opposite directions too many days and evenings of the week can take its toll.
* Business associations for community involvement and church are important, but if your schedule is full with individual activities, your marriage relationship will suffer for lack of time together.
* Look for and schedule time for togetherness. If you don’t schedule time together, you probably won’t find much time to spend together. Other things, people and events will crowd into your schedule. When is the last time you? went on a ‘date’ with your spouse?
* Communicate regularly and meaningfully. Marriage combines two busy schedules, and the concerns of the family to produce a relationship that is challenged by the many directional pulls of an active life. You must continually work at communicating in order to maintain a close bond in the midst of busyness.
* Communicating takes time and commitment to really hear the other person. Talk to each other. As the Holy Spirit in James says learn to listen more than speak.
* Resolve differences that arise quickly. Intimacy is easier to destroy than it is to build. Never go to bed mad.
* Ignoring or pretending that differences don’t happen doesn’t resolve them. Give yourself time to grow together in oneness. Deal with your issues.
* Never communicate in a hurtful way. Ask yourself, do my words invite my spouse into my life, or do they push him/her away? If your words have not been full of grace lately, repent to the Lord and to your spouse.
* Never attack your spouse: always attack the issue that is at the root of the problem.
* Speak kindly. Listen long and loudly……..
* Be honest always. Deception never helps and it offends both God and your spouse; it hinders every relationship. Tell the truth in its entirety.
* Never nag. Once you have plainly said something to your spouse, and you know it’s been heard, leave it with your spouse and take it to the Lord.
* Encourage one another.
* Build the confidence of your spouse. When is the last time you complimented your spouse? Which is the same thing you desire.
* Never behave abusively or violently. Abusive behavior is damaging to the spirit and the soul, as well as to the body. The repercussions of abuse will also wound those around you. Get counseling immediately.
* Treat each other in love.
* Never allow yourself to be physically or mentally unfaithful. There is nothing that hurts a marriage more than emotional or literal infidelity.

*The most important one. MAKE JESUS THE HEAD OF YOUR LIFE AND YOUR MARRIAGE!

Yielding to the temporary illusion of excitement will never be worth the agony you will reap. Forgiveness, healing, and reconciliation can come, but the process can be scarring not only to you, but too many standing nearby.

Mark 10:9 “Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate.”

The Vine and the Branches…How to Survive the Day…

John 15:5-8 “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.”
The Vine and the Branches…How to Survive the Day….

A question for you this morning. Do you see yourself as requiring nourishment to survive the day? And typically the days are evil or offer the opportunity to be so. Of course our mind immediately moves to food when you here such a question. But, did you know there are more than one vital piece of nourishment needed to sustain us throughout our day in our world? The body and nourishment is easy and natural for us to focus on. I eat and hopefully it is some foods that are nourishing as well as good tasting. Then there is the other vital nourishment, the spiritual side of us. Scripture gives us the picture of ‘born again’ believers being the branches requiring nourishment from the vine (God) to survive and more importantly to please God with our lives. We choose daily which level of physical and spiritual nourishment will support us throughout the day. Which level did you start with this morning? Did you have a spiritual breakfast before going into the world?
Broad rivers and streams produce fertility, and abundance in the land. Places near broad rivers are remarkable for the variety of their plants and their plentiful harvests. God is all this to his Church. Having God she has abundance. What can she ask for that he will not give her? What want can she mention which he will not supply? “In this mountain shall the Lord of Hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things.” Want ye the bread of life? It drops like manna from the sky. Want ye refreshing streams? The rock follows you, and that Rock is Christ. If you suffer any want it is your own fault; if you are straitened you are not straitened in him, but in your own bowels. Broad rivers and streams also point to commerce. Our glorious Lord is to us a place of heavenly merchandise. Through our Redeemer we have commerce with the past; the wealth of Calvary, the treasures of the covenant, the riches of the ancient days of election, the stores of eternity, all come to us down the broad stream of our gracious Lord. We have commerce, too, with the future. What galleys, laden to the water’s edge, come to us from the millennium! What visions we have of the days of heaven upon earth! Through our glorious Lord we have commerce with angels; communion with the bright spirits washed in blood, who sing before the throne; nay, better still, we have fellowship with the Infinite One. Broad rivers and streams are specially intended to set forth the idea of security. Rivers were of old a defense. Oh! beloved, what a defense is God to his Church! The devil cannot cross this broad river of God. How he wishes he could turn the current, but fear not, for God abides immutably the same. Satan may worry, but he cannot destroy us; no galley with oars shall invade our river, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby.

(–C.H. Spurgeon, Morning and Evening, Devotion for 11/24/09).

John 15:1-4 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit He takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.

Are You a Veteran of the Real War…

Are You a Veteran of the real war….?

Eph 6:12,13a “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God…”

Our country went through declared and undeclared wars that many did not and still do not either agree with or understand. Wars such as WW1, WW2, Vietnam conflict, Korean conflict, Gulf war, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. Some were never declared wars so they were fought without using all the means at our disposal to end them. None the less hundreds of thousands of military men and women blindly obeyed for the benefit of their country and many have lost their lives for our country.

These brave men and women fought the fight willingly taking it by faith that it was their duty and obligation. They did not read the constitution and then decide to enlist. Most blindly enlisted and for the most part did what were told to do. Men and women put their lives on the line and lost their lives.

Were you one of them who served? Did you fight a war without even understanding it? Think of it, people putting their lives on the line for something called country and duty. Why is it so easy to accept the demands of a nation while ignoring the offer of a Savior?

Some of it has to do with the cold war that is on for souls. The enemy has many blinded into believing his doctrines.  The battle cry of the rulers of darkness controlling this world is to get people to believe that church affiliation and their life style if good enough and will give them the opportunity to get to heaven. Then satan plants doubts like having us believe that hell is not real. Or he gets them believing in self and materialism as their purpose for the years we spend on this earth which becomes our religion.

2 Corinthians 4:3,4 “But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.”

The good news is that the constitution that will never change, the Bible, holds the truth and is as relevant today as it was the day it was put on paper and is available to all. It alone gives us the answer to life and all the vital questions for how to live it and where our eternity will be.

James 4:14 “whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

The good news and battle cry of Jesus is that heaven is for real. Our average life span on this earth is 75-80 years. How short that is compared to eternity. And the good news says that His soldiers will spend eternity with Him in heaven, our future home. Yes, most whom take up Jesus cause will suffer, and some will even die for their Savior.

2 Timothy 3:12-15 “Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

Jesus proclaims that He came to earth, lived the only sinless life ever lived because He was and is God, died for our sins, was buried and rose the third day. Today, Jesus sits at the right hand of the throne of God and makes intercession for sinners such as those of us who will accept His sacrifice for our sins and deny our ability to attain it through any other means. He is our Supreme Commander. No church, no person, no saint can do that for us.

We must simply believe and blindly obey like good soldiers. It’s called faith. Is it really easier to trust a military recruiter than Jesus?  Only a small minority, according to scripture, will trust in Jesus. How sad!

The Gospel is great news for the veteran and for everyone else. All can be a veteran of God’s war. Unfortunately most are not. The cold war for the souls of men, women and children continues today. As a believer, will you allow satan to win the war for souls because you are not willing to leave your comfort zone and tell someone about Jesus??????

Some day each of us will stand in front of our Supreme Commander, Jesus. Oh, to be a veteran of the real cold war and to hear; ‘well done, thy good and faithful servant’.

Rom 14:11-12 “For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, to me every knee shall bow, And every tongue shall confess to God.  So, then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.”

And most importantly are you a member of God’s army???????????????????

It’s not to late to enlist!!!!

Here is how to enlist!

Jesus said; John 14:6 ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to Father except through Me.’

Romans 10:13 ‘For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.”

Pure truth from God’s word that no adversary can delete. The end of the battle has already been determined.  I’ve read the book, the Bible, and it says!

The Good news…

JESUS AND HIS ARMY WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
