Finding Absolute Truth…Yes there is…

II Tim 3:16,17 “All scripture is given by the inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be made perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

 Malachi 3:6a “For I am the Lord, I do not change;

John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

 Finding Absolute Truth….

For all you scientists out there and for all the students who have a hard time convincing these people regarding the truth > of the Bible…here’s something that shows God’s awesome creation > and shows that He is still in control.

Did you know that the Space Program is busy proving that > what has been called “myth” in the Bible is true? Mr. Harold Hill, President of the Curtis Engine Company in Baltimore Maryland > and a consultant in the space program, relates the Following > development:

I think one of the most amazing things that God has for us > today happened recently to our astronauts and space scientists at Green Belt, Maryland. They were checking the position of the sun, > moon, and planets out in space where they would be 100 years and > 1000 years from now. We have to know this so we won’t send a > satellite, up and have it bump into something later on its orbits. We > have to lay out the orbits in terms of the life of the satellite, and > where the planets will be so the whole thing will not bog down.

They ran the computer measurement back and forth over the Centuries > and it came to a halt. The computer stopped and put-up a red signal, > which meant that there was something wrong either with the information > fed into it or with the results as compared to the standards.

They called in the service department to check it out and they asked, > “What’s wrong?”  Well, they found there is a day missing in space in > elapsed time. They scratched their heads and tore their hair. There was > no answer.

Finally, a Christian man on the team said, “You know, one time I was in > inSunday school and they talked about the sun standing still.” > While they didn’t believe him, they didn’t have an answer either, so > they said, “Show us”.

He got a Bible and went back to the book of Joshua where they found > a pretty ridiculous statement for any one with ‘common sense.’ > There they found the Lord saying to Joshua, “Fear them not, I have > delivered them into thy hand; there shall not a man of them stand > before thee.”

Joshua was concerned because he was surrounded by the enemy and > if darkness fell they would overpower them. So Joshua asked the Lord > to make the sun stand still! That’s right, “The sun stood still and > the moon stayed—and hastened not to go down about a whole day!”

The astronauts and scientists said, “There is the missing day!” > They checked the computers going back into the time it was written > and found it was close but not close enough. The elapsed time that > was missing back in Joshua’s day was 23 hours and 20 minutes-not > a whole day.

They read the Bible and there it was “about (approximately) a day” > These little words in the Bible are important, but they were still > in trouble because if you cannot account for 40 minutes you’ll still > be in trouble 1,000 years from now. Forty minutes had to be found > because it can be multiplied many times over in orbits.

As the Christian employee thought about it, he remembered somewhere in the Bible where it said the sun went BACKWARDS. > The scientists told him he was out of his mind, but they got out > the Book and read these words in 2 Kings. Hezekiah, on his deathbed, was visited by the prophet Isaiah who told him that he was not going > to die.

Hezekiah asked for a sign as proof.  Isaiah said “Do you want the sun > to go ahead 10 degrees?” Hezekiah said “It is nothing for the sun to > go ahead 10 degrees, but let the shadow return backwards 10 degrees. > Isaiah spoke to the Lord and the Lord brought the shadow ten > degrees BACKWARD!

Ten degrees is exactly 40 minutes! Twenty-three hours and 20 minutes > in Joshua, plus 40 minutes in Second Kings make the missing day > in the universe!

Isn’t it amazing? Our God provides all the truth and direction needed for our lives. All we must do is believe and seek!

One Sacrifice is Acceptable for Sin…

One Sacrifice is Acceptable for Sin….

Satan’s biggest lie is that we are good enough to work off the penalty we place upon ourselves when we sin. The book of Romans and other passages of scripture note that the penalty is spiritual and physical death (Rom 3:23, 6:23) The most urgent question for each of us should be. Can I atone for my sins or does it take someone other than me to make atonement for my sins?

Isaiah 64:6 “For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.”

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is Eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The lie that we can work off our sins has another wrinkle. Maybe some organization or church can do it for me. What does God say?

Heb 10:11,12,14 “And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God. For by ONE offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”

Another lie is that we must have someone to go between us and God when we ask for forgiveness of our sins. Again, what does God say? Who is the Mediator for me to go through to reach God to obtain forgiveness for my sins?

I Tim 2:5 “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

The question of the ages is whether the church or my deeds can replace the sacrifice needed to wipe my sins away.

II Cor 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Eph 2:8,9 “For by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, NOT OF WORKS, lest anyone would boast.”

Have you first recognized your sin and then Who are you trusting in this morning for forgiveness of those sins?

The Temptation to sin…

Luke 9:23 “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”

The temptation to sin is normal and common for mankind. The temptation all by itself is not the sin. The sin occurs when I decide to stay with that temptation and develop it. When it goes from temptation to development either in my mind or in my actions it becomes sin. The real war that goes on within us is the battle to control the mind. That is why scripture tells us so much about how to manage these temptations.

Scripture first tell us that God is never the Author of sinful temptations.
James 1:13 ” Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

Our Lord also tells us that temptations are common to mankind so do not feel like you are fighting this alone.
I Cor 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

It is a daily war with decisions that we need to make. Do I stay with that temptation or do I flee it. Our Lord also gave us that answer.

II Tim 2:22 ” Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.’

“The only way to be saved from the lure of the wrong roads is by doing what our Master [the Lord Jesus Christ] tells us, that is, “Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.” If we do not watch and pray we shall be led into temptation before we know where we are. “Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” said Jesus (Luke 18:8). He will find faith in individual men and women, but the general organized form of the Christian church has slipped almost wholesale onto wrong roads to the Kingdom.”

–Oswald Chambers

Luke 9:23 “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”

And as Joshua said, the choice truly is mine……………..

Joshua 24:15 “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Don’t Drink and Drive…

Rev 21:4&6 “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death,
nor sorrow, nor crying; and there shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. And He said to me, ‘I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give the fountain of water of life freely to him who thirsts.'”

I went to a party, Mom, I remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom, so I drank soda instead
I really felt proud inside, Mom, the way you said I would.
I didn’t drink and drive, Mom, even though the others said I should.
I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know you are always right.

Now the party is finally ending, Mom, as everyone is driving out of sight.
As I got into my car, Mom, I knew I’d get home in one piece.
Because of the way you raised me, so responsible and sweet.

I started to drive away, Mom, but as I pulled out into the road,
the other car did not see me, Mom, and hit me like a load.

As I lay there on the pavement, Mom, I hear the policeman say,
the other guy is drunk, Mom, and now I’m the one who will pay.
I’m lying here dying, Mom… I wish you’d get here soon.
How could this happen to me, Mom? My life just burst like a balloon.

There is blood all around me, Mom, and most of it is mine.
I hear the medic say, Mom, I’ll die in a short time.
I just wanted to tell you, Mom, I swear I didn’t drink.
It was the others, Mom. The others didn’t think.

He was probably at the same party as I.
The only difference is, he drank and I will die.
Why do people drink, Mom? It can ruin your whole life.

I’m feeling sharp pains now. Pains just like a knife.
The guy who hit me is walking, Mom, and I don’t think it’s fair.
I’m lying here dying and all he can do is stare.
Tell my brother not to cry, Mom. Tell Daddy to be brave.

And when I go to heaven, Mom, put “Daddy’s Girl” on my grave.
Someone should have told him, Mom, not to drink and drive.
If only they had told him, Mom, I would still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mom. I’m becoming very scared.
Please don’t cry for me, Mom. When I needed you, you were always there.
I have one last question, Mom, before I say good bye,
I didn’t drink and drive, so why am I the one that has to die?

Does your Bible hold God’s Absolute Truths…

Mat 5:18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

Does your Bible hold God’s Absolute Truths…?

Are you using a different bible than I am? Recently I was asked that question in one of our bible studies. One person who was attending had mentioned to a friend that they were attending a bible study. The curious friend wanted to know more and one question that they had was whether or not the study was using the authorized bible from the church they attended. The attendee did not know and asked the question at one of our studies.

It brought back reminders of my early days as a Christian. I to have asked that question. Shortly after being ‘born again’ and with many questions my wife and I met with our RC Church clergy and talked about our new faith and why the RC Church had not taught us to be ‘born again’ as scripture did. We were told by the clergy to stay away from those people and to stay out of the bible. The insinuation was that the bible was too complex for us to understand it without their guidance and also those people were using an unauthorized bible leading us to believe it contained error.

God as with all of my questions and dilemmas in my life when I truly ask and trust Him for wisdom He then came to my rescue. Our God is great. He waits for us via faith to seek Him and to depend on Him.  He tells us He will never allow men or women to deceive us if we truly seek His truths. That was and is the most valuable source of information I use for my life today. God is in control and sovereign.  He is my protector and is greater than any power this world can come up with. But I must first seek Him and allow His will for my life.

With that question being asked at the bible study I sought God’s wisdom on how to help the group. The Holy Spirit led our group in a study of the bibles available to see if they held the same truths or had one been corrupted by mankind. As a very young Christian as previously mentioned I struggled with the question of whether my bible that I at that time was using (KJV) 35 years ago was different than the one my Roman Catholic Church authorized. God helped me by presenting His word to me in Mat 5:18 which says that both the OT and NT will be protected by God so that we have His truths. It says that protection will occur until Heaven and Earth pass. God does away with current Heaven and Earth and creates a new Heaven and new Earth for His eternal family after the 1,000-year millennium which is also after the 7-year tribulation period. The Book of Revelation provides us with the last time periods of mankind on this earth and the events leading up to the creation of the new Heaven and Earth. And unfortunately, the judgment of mankind that chooses to reject God. Until all of it occurs (Mat 5:18) God will protect His truths so that all of mankind have availability to it and no excuse for rejecting it.  That provided me with the peace that passes understanding on the topic of whether or not God can and does protect His truths for all those who seek Him.

With that in mind we took older and the latest bible versions of the Roman Catholic Church and Protestants faiths to our study. The Roman Catholic bibles all having the Imprimatur authorizing their use. We studied the most important question asked down through the ages, the same that the Philippian jailor asked; “What must I do to be saved?” We read from each on the following topics;

  • All being sinners (Rom 3:10, 3:23, Isa 64:6),
  • All condemned to Spiritual and Physical death because of our sins (Rom 6:23)
  • God’s awesome love for sinners (John 3:16, Rom 5:8)
  • No work, church affiliation or family heritage can save me from the punishment (Eph 2:8,9, Titus 3:5)
  • What must I do to be saved (Rom 10:9, 10 & 13, John 3:3)
  • My only Mediator in confessing my sins is not a clergy member but Jesus Himself (I Tim 2:5)

It soon became obvious that the bibles of both faiths proclaim the same glorious truths. God, as He says in Mat 5:18 will not allow mankind to keep His saving truths from those who truly seek them. The jot and tittle mentioned are the smallest punctuation marks of the Greek and Hebrew texts. That was and is comforting then and now. What is required of us is to take God at His word. If He can create us He can protect us and lead us to truth.

Heb 12:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

If you have a similar question today go ahead and check it out. Put the bibles side by side and see the power of our God. He will provide you with the truths you seek and need for your life.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”

WANTED – Faithful Servants. No Experience Necessary….
A poem by B Williams

My friend, I stand in judgment now,
and feel that you are to blame somehow,
on earth I walked with you day to day
and never did you point the way.

You knew the Lord in truth and glory
but never did you tell the story.
My knowledge then was very dim;
You could have led me safe to Him.

Though we lived together here on earth,
you never told me of the second birth,
and now I stand this day condemned,
because you failed to mention Him.

You taught me many things that’s true;
I called you friend and trusted you,
but I learned now that it’s too late,
you could have kept me from this fate.

We walked by day and talked by night
and you showed me not the Light;
you let me live and love and die,
you knew I’d never live on high.

Yes, I called you “friend” in life
and trusted you through fun and strife.
And yet, coming to this dreadful end
I cannot, now, call you “my friend”||||||||||||

WANTED – Faithful servants. Experience not necessary|

Which Church did God design…

Which Church is from God…

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Have you ever heard Pastors and Church leaders talk about “C” and “E” Christians?  Well, these are the folks that only attend Church on “Christmas” and “Easter”.

A sign on a Church sign board reads. “Come on in, we are open before and after both Christmas and Easter.  And even worse there is a group that only sees the inside of a church when they are married or buried. Our focus this morning is on serving the Body of Christ which equals serving Jesus.

What is the ‘Body of Christ’ that we see mentioned in scripture? It is the Church Jesus designed and started. So that being the case how important is it that I be involved?  Being active with a Church for you does not just mean being involved in Church sponsored activities. Jesus desires your life focus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Be careful not to have the issue the Church of Ephesus had in the Book of Revelation. They were so busy serving in the Church ministries that they had lost their first love or their primary relationship with Jesus the Head of the Church. We need to serve His Church but most importantly He must remain the primary focus of why we do so.

Rev 2:4, 5 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place–unless you repent.

Once we are ‘born again’ I believe we are all FULL TIME SERVANTS WHO NEVER RETIRE UNTIL WE ARE HOME WITH JESUS.

Rate yourself on individual and group worship on a scale of 1 through 10 with 10 being fully active for Jesus. Rate yourself on how well you are participating with the Body of Christ. Are you sitting and soaking or are you an active CHRISTian?

So, where are you from 1 to 10? There are 8,736 hours in a year. Is it possible that you believe that attending a church service for roughly 104 hours a year (2 hours weekly which includes travel time) out of that 8,736 will please God or take care of your obligation to serve Him?

The danger is to be like those noted in Romans 1:21; ‘they knew God but do not worship Him as God.”

So how does that problem relate to a ‘Born Again’ believer’? Presenting our lives to His service (Rom 12:1, 2) and being in fellowship (Heb 10:25) is commanded by God but simple attendance is not the reason for that command nor is it how to please God.

If that were the case we would only attend if the preacher, the building and the people fit our expectations and requirements. Jesus desire is that all of us be full time servants!!!!!  Maybe the reason the church you looked at does not have the ministry you require for you and your family to attend it is because you are not there to provide it or work in it.

The Churches view of a time commitment in the one that I grew up in was that you had to attend weekly services of their Denomination or it was a mortal sin. Attendance and service were out of obligation to achieve heaven. They classified sins into two categories, Mortal and Venial. Mortal sins would keep you out of heaven if you died without having them confessed. But there was an out because someone still on this earth could pray for or buy your way into heaven even after your death.  On that topic what we find in scripture is;

Heb 9:27 “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,”

For the ‘born again’ believer there should be a strong bond between you and your Savior and a different view of what the Church and service is. So strong a bond that it causes you to worship and serve Jesus. If you serve out of love for Jesus you will not wash out when you come up against adversity.

So, what is the Body of Christ? It is all Born Again believers IN THE WORLD! Only one denomination was ever mentioned in scripture and it was called ‘The Way’. Are you a part of it and do you love it’s Pastor (Jesus)?

So, what are my responsibilities as a member of the Body of Christ?

Mat 28:19, 20 (LOOKUP) “Go you therefore and make disciples of all nations…”

Heb 10:25 (LOOKUP) “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another:”

Rom 12:6a Having gifts that differ according to the grace given us, let us use them:”

I Peter 4:10 “As every man hath received a gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

How are you doing this morning with your commission from God?

The key to a Christian’s successful relationship with his Church (Body of Christ) is not for him to determine how Jesus’ Church can benefit him & family but for him to discover how he can benefit Jesus’ Church.

Ask not what Jesus Church can do for you, but what you can do for Jesus Church!
