Who do you Idolize…..

I Cor 1:11-13 “For it has been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were you baptized in the name of Paul?”

Who am I following…?

One of the quickest ways to fall away from your walk with the Lord is to put too much emphasis on a man or woman of God. God uses human instruments to plant the seeds of salvation. He uses human instruments to disciple us and help us grow in our faith. He uses human instruments to impact our spiritual lives. In a society that is prone to idolize others, such as entertainers, athletes, and successful people, we tend to elevate our leaders as well; i.e., we tend to place our pastors and Christian leaders on pedestals they don’t belong on. Our eyes must be focused on the Lord, and our emphasis on His Word.

The question for this morning is; “who or what is the source of your affections for the blessings & challenges you receive?”

One of the quickest ways to get into spiritual trouble is to start giving credit for things that happen in my life or to those around me to someone other than Jesus. Note the verses above from I Corinthians. The church at Corinth found itself worshipping men rather than our Savior. If not careful we can fall to the same problem. Think about it for a minute.

When was the last time you gave credit for a powerful message to the speaker? It’s the same as giving the credit for the books of the Bible to the scribes rather than the Author. Did the Holy Spirit author them or was it Paul, Matthew, Mark, Luke, etc? The scribes or messengers are blessed in that God allows them to be used to pass on His truths but they understand and if properly focused admit that the message is from God and not from them.

II Peter 1:20, 21 “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

Be extremely careful who you give the credit to for the blessings and challenges of your life. Our God requires our whole being to worship Him and only Him!

Mark 12:30 “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”
