Which Wisdom will you Seek? #4

Me, myself and I, that’s what counts….,

Which Wisdom will you seek!

The wisdom of this world vs. the wisdom of God||

World = Feeling fulfilled in this life is all that matters. Who knows what the after life holds? There is no heaven and no hell. So grab all the gusto while you can. After all, you only go around once!

God’s Truth & Wisdom = The Way to contentment is through Jesus. All will die and judgment comes after physical death.  Each person will be judged for his/her deeds. Eternal life with God or eternal punishments with satan is the choices.

This life is the beginning of eternity for each person!

Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man; But the end thereof are the ways of death.”

Mat 11:28, 29 “Come unto Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I

will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me, for
I am meek and lowly of heart, and you shall find rest unto your souls.”

Heb 9:27 “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the
judgment.”

There is eternal life after our time on this earth. The question is not if there is eternal life,
but where will we spend it.

Mat 25:31-46 vs. 46 “…And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but
the righteous into eternal life.”

Rev20:15 “And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the
lake of fire.”

So, how about those in the places God has put you to be the salt and the light. Your neighborhood, work place, etc.
Is your name and are their names in the Book of Life?

Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved!”

How to be content….

How to be content!

Our lives are spent attempting to find peace and contentment. Our world tells us that it comes by having money, health, fame, position and on and on. Our world never mentions a relationship with God as the primary way to contentment. Do you ever wonder why that would be?

II Cor 4:3, 4 “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that perish: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn upon them.”

Are you content and at peace with all things in your life? No, I mean actually content??????????

And of course there is one thing in your life that should never bring peace. It’s called sin and that sin keeps us from real peace and contentment.

I Tim 6:6-10a “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil…”

Contentment starts with right priorities!!!!!!!

Mat 6:33 “But seek you first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness…”

Phil 4:7, 8 “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Convicting isn’t it? How do I know? I speak from continuing experiences!!!!!!

Today is a great day to start a change of priorities.

Luke 9:23 “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”

My goodness…..

Most of our world screams to us that in and of ourselves we are good and worthy of all we can get. Is that really true?

Read on and see.

Which Wisdom will you seek? #3

The wisdom of this world vs. the wisdom of God||

World = we are born basically good. Guilt over sin is an illusion left over from oppressive religions and past generations.

Truth changes from generation to generation as mankind continues to evolve. It’s called “Progressive Revelation”.

God’s truth & wisdom = we were born with a sin nature and all are sinners. That explains a lot. Truth from God never changes!

If it changes then it is not from God.  If we are naturally good we would be able to accomplish our own eternal destiny and Jesus death on the cross was in vain.

So here is the truth as recorded!

Mal 3:6 “For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”]

Rom 3:10 “For there are none good, no not one.”

Rom 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.”

I Jn 1:10 “If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
Jesus paid the ugly penalty for my sins!

II Cor 5:21 “For He became sin for us, Who knew no sin, that we might be made
the righteousness of God in Him.”

Gal 2:21 “I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.”

Which Wisdom will you choose? #2

The ________ made me do it? Is that really true?

Which Wisdom will you choose?

The world’s wisdom = Dysfunctional people are the result of circumstances and/or past

generations that have passed down defective genetics.  Therefore most people cannot and should not be held accountable.  They are simply a product of their circumstances.

God’s wisdom= The sin nature that we all have is inherited resulting in spiritual and physical    death. Each person is accountable for his or her actions.

Rom 1:20 “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power
and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.”

Rom 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Rom 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The bad news is that I am a sinner and accountable for all of my actions.

Romans 5:18,19 “Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.”

The good news is, there is a solution.

John 3:16, 17 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved

Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.”

Our lives and future generations will be affected by our sins.

Gal 6:7 “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

Ex 34:7b “…visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”

While the sin nature is inherited, each of us is accountable for our actions.
God accepts no excuses.

Understanding God’s will for our life….

Isaiah 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.”

Understanding God’s will for your life

Do you know the difference between God’s perfect will and His permissive will. If you are like me the answer is, well kind of. The big question is, which one do you desire to have fulfilled in your life. Inside of us is that daily struggle between the flesh and the Spirit. The flesh thinks it knows what is best for my life and my emotions typically agree with my flesh. That is a huge caution to me when it comes to identifying just what is God’s will for my life. God reminds me that His ways and thoughts are much higher than mine are and can be very different. That tells me that my logic and feelings are very inadequate for making decisions.

What God knows is best and what He desires for each of His children lines up with His perfect will. When I ask for my will to be done based on how I feel or what I perceive is best for me that drives me to pray for that result and that result only. And to feel that God has not answered my prayer if the answer is not yes. God loves us so much He may allow an answer to prayer that is not in His perfect will. That is called God’s permissive will. The big problem is that when we are out of line with God’s will the end result is always without exception bad for us. Even if it lines up with my desires.

The story of Balaam and Balak is a great example. Balak the King had a problem. He saw how God was blessing His people that He had just taken out of Egypt. That meant doom for many groups of people who were populating the promised land. Balak was scared. He was the King of one of those groups. He heard that Balaam was a man of God and God answered his prayers. So he sent a group to Balaam the Prophet to ask him to come with them and to curse the nation of Israel. Balaam went to God and God told him to not go with them and to not curse Israel. Pretty straight forward. But like us Balaam allowed some things to blind him of God’s will.

When Balak heard the news he sent a 2nd group now including many persons of higher positions to influence Balaam. Balaam went back to God with the same request. In Chapter 22 and 23 of Numbers we read the account. Take special note that God told Balaam he could go along with them which reflects His permissive will. He gave Balaam what he desired but it did not line up with His perfect will which was to not go. That one shakes me because it challenges me on how many times I have multiple requests for the same prayer request. Am I also trying to change God’s will from His perfect will to His permissive will? Listen to the danger is doing so.

It notes in Numbers 22 that God was angry. And we have the same God today that answered Balaam. Balak offered Balaam a great sum of money to do so. That’s where the flesh took off running. Balaam saw a great material blessing at his waiting. The Spirit nudged Balaam with the realization that to do so was out of line with God’s will. And so the struggle was on. Just what would he pray for. God’s perfect will and loose the material rewards and maybe even his life or would he ask God for His will to be done? Balaam by not accepting God’s perfect will almost lost his life. If you read about the next events it was only by God’s grace that Balaam lived. That story of his life shakes me. How many times do I not listen to God and only want to accept what I feel is best for me. And those requests may be leading to disaster!

We do have the perfect example of this struggle given to us by Jesus. The human side of Jesus did not want to go through the torture of the cross. Jesus being the only person to ever walk the earth and never sin also was the only person to walk this earth who never requested anything other than…..

Mat 26:42 “Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” ‘

Which Wisdom will you Seek? #1

Which Wisdom will you Seek? #1

There is more than one author of wisdom. Or at least to what we think is wisdom. And we all crave wisdom so we can feel the satisfaction of knowing what to do, when to do it, how to do it and oh yes, to feel that I was right.

Do you need wisdom to live a happy life?

Over the next few days let’s look at what God’s word says on obtaining wisdom.

Each of us chooses a source of wisdom either knowingly or unknowingly. Look for which source you are obtaining your wisdom from. Each source of wisdom represents where we place our priorities and where we place our strength, finances and well being. It can be very enlightening and hopefully life changing if necessary. It has been for me.

Worldly wisdom vs. Godly wisdom.

What does each say about Knowledge?

World = Knowledge is obtained by education, experience and imitating the rich and famous of this world.  Knowledge makes me who I am.

God = Knowledge comes from education and experience but must be accompanying with and by God’s truths to be lasting and meaningful. If we do not have God’s wisdom to use it, it is useless in furthering the kingdom of God and useless for our lives.

Knowledge and Wisdom that is valuable for your life can only come from God as He is shaping it in your life.

Psalm 1:1a “Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly…”

Proverbs 8:35, 36 a “Wisdom. For whoever finds Me finds life, and obtains favor from the Lord; and he who sins against Me wrongs his soul …”

James 1:5, 6 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”

Proverbs 9:10-12 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by me your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you. If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, and if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”

So, how are you using your knowledge this morning? For His glory or your own?

Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge; But the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.”

Body, Soul and Spirit and Value….

II Cor 4:3, 4 “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

Body, Soul and Spirit and Value…..

It’s easy for us to think that maybe there is only this life and nothing after. The world around keeps trying to pull into that thinking. And of course if that is our thinking then there is no need for a Savior. Sounds like a philosophy that satan would subscribe to. He does actively blind people so that the Gospel has not meaning or affect on them. The beauty is that God’s truth can overcome those blinders.

John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

The truth from God’s word is that our bodies temporarily house the soul and spirit that make up our real person. The real person is a nonphysical being who began existence when God

Gen 2:7 “breathed into his [Adam’s] nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul”

God reminds us that we are body, soul, and spirit and our value is not based on our income, 401K and the toys we accumulate. Yet mankind ignores God’s wisdom and persists in pursuing the accumulation of wealth and the possessions and pleasures it will buy, none of which last beyond death. I enjoy my material toys but hopefully not too much. When they become my priority or my love than the line has been crossed and my priorities are out of God’s will. That’s a dangerous place to be.

Luke 12:15″A man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses”

I must understand that I am an eternal being living temporarily in a physical body. Those who believe that the body is all that we consist of spend their entire lives trying to fulfill the desires of the flesh. As believers we must recognize these truths or we will not seek God’s will be done in our lives and we will not have a burden for those who have not yet heard that you “must be born again”.

Our Savior asked, “What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul” (Mt 16:26; Mk 8:36)? Jesus showed us the folly of a materialistic outlook in the parable of the rich farmer, where his crops were so abundant that he told himself, “I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.” But God said unto him, “Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God” (Lk 12:16-21).

For the atheist, human destiny is a hoped-for oblivion upon death, whereby one escapes God’s judgment. Remember that an Atheist is simply a person placing his or her faith in self, world and things that can be seen. They are just as lost as the person who is placing their salvation hope in a Church denomination and self and is a religious person in the eyes of the world. This is the vain hope and faith of the godless. Will that hope be granted? Never! Death is not the end of man’s existence, for God has declared,

Heb 9:27 “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment”

Though the body decays when it dies, the soul and spirit are destined to exist forever because we are eternal beings. The death of the body offers no escape. After death, Christians stand at the Judgment Seat of Christ to receive rewards or to suffer loss for their level of service after being “born again” where our eternal destiny was determined. The damned will face Jesus at the Great White Throne judgment and from there will be cast into the Lake of Fire, which is called “the Second Death.”

“What is my purpose in life?” is the logical question every reasonable person must face. This realization does not arise from an evolutionary development in the brain or DNA but from the reasoning of the nonphysical mind. And most importantly by our faith in our God and His recorded truths. We live and must walk by faith not by sight.

Everything in the universe points to the Creator. How can we help but exclaim with the Psalmist, “As the heart pants after the water brook, so panteth my soul after thee O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God….”

Romans 1:20 “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse”
