Ecc 12:13 “Vanity of vanities, says the preacher, all is vanity!
All is vanity!!!
But it doesn’t have to be!!!
How do I obtain LASTING peace and joy. Solomon started his life in God’s will but it turned into Solomon doing his own will later in life. He started off by seeking God’s will be done but then the flesh turned him to seeking his own will over God’s.
He tried to find lasting happiness by the material pleasures he owned and by the people he surrounded himself with. God had told him and his people not to intermarry with the gentile nations. Solomon disobeyed and…
I Kings 11:4-6 “For when Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away after other gods; and his heart was not wholly devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been. For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians and after Milcom the detestable idol of the Ammonites.”
The lesson is that you cannot have the most important thing in life in conflict with what is the most important thing in your spouse’s life. The command is the same for the NT saints and who they commit their lives to in marriage.
Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not follow the Lord fully, as David his father had done. Solomon had all the world could offer so how could this happen? Listen as Solomon leaves us some great advice.
Ecc 12:1,8,13,14 “Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near when you will say, ‘I have not delight in them’. Vanity of vanities, says the preacher, all is vanity! The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: FEAR GOD AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgement, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.”
Solomon’s conclusion was that the temporary joy that this world offers is vanity. America’s gods offer the same. They are sex, self and money and can offer the same. In and of themselves each is not evil, but if they become our god they then keep us from God and are evil.
The question for you and I is; am I seeking my own will over a lasting relationship with Jesus????
