Predestination, is it real….

Mat 4:19 “Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Who me….

What does it mean that God predestined me? What am I predestinated to be? Unfortunately I see believers who allow this topic to redirect their lives’ focus on what God would have them to do. An example would be the thought process that says if predestination is of God then those who are going to be saved will be saved so I do not need to have a burden for the lost and be active in seeking who God would have me to witness to. If that is the case then I wonder why our Lord told the first disciples and I believe us also to “go and make disciples” in Mat 28:19,20? And why He would tell the first disciples and I believe us to follow Him and He would make them fishers of men in Mat 4:19? Witnessing is like our giving of material blessings to God’s use. The person with the spiritual gift of evangelism will have the desire to do much more than those without that gift but all believers are to witness to the unsaved as our Lord directs and provides opportunities to do so.

Like most believers I do not know in total what predestination means. What I do know is the awesome fact that “God chose me” (John 6:44), yes me with all of my flaws. WOW! You don’t have to look very hard at your fleshly nature to feel really special that God chose you. Now, my search must be to find what service God has for me to do prior to taking me to my eternal home. A bit of a different thought process then the worlds “live and let live” and “live it with all the gusto you can, because you only go around once”.

There is much about the predestination topic that can paralyze or neutralize the believer and their service for Jesus. Don’t allow it to be you. His ways and thoughts are not our ways and thoughts according to Isaiah 55:8 so we can never depend on our own understanding to direct our paths. We must allow His word to direct us. Jesus pulled us into His church by His grace and while on this earth and in this church age He has much for us to do!!!!!!!!!
The following quote may sum it up best.

Luke 9:23 “Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me”

On Calvinism

“Turn to your Bible and read for yourself in the only two chapters in which this word predestinate or predestinated is found. The first is Romans 8:29-30, the other chapter is Ephesians 1:5 and 11. You will note that there is no reference in these four verses to either heaven or hell but to Christ-likeness eventually. Nowhere are we told in scripture that God predestinated one man to be saved and another to be lost. Men are to be saved or lost eternally because of their attitude towards the Lord Jesus Christ. Predestination means that someday all the redeemed shall become just like the Lord Jesus”

“D.L. Moody used to put it very simply the elect are the ‘whosoever wills’ the non-elect ‘whosoever wont’s’. This is exactly what scripture teaches, the invitation is to all, those who accept it are the elect. Remember, we are never told that Christ died for the elect”.
“Whosoever means, whosoever.” Only a biased theologian, with an axe to grind, could ever think that it meant only the elect.”

II Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

The Enemy…..

I Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

Do you find it amazing that we have an enemy that many or most Christians do not even recognize his existance. Our opening verse is as relevant today as it was when the Holy Spirit told Peter to put it on paper so all current and future generations would have it. The problem is that he is the master deceiver and comes in disguise.

2 Cor 11:13-15 “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.”

The following is how Paul Harvey helped us to understand the “rest of the story” as he would put it. It sounds chillingly accurate.

If I were the devil…….

If I were the Prince of Darkness I’d want to engulf the whole world in darkness…So I’d set about however necessary to take over the United States.

I’d subvert the schools first-I’d begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: “Do as you please.” To the young I would whisper that “The Bible is a Myth”. I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around. I would confide that what is bad is good, and what’s good is “square”. And the old, I would teach to pray, after me, “Our Father , which art in Washington,…” In other words, if I were the devil I’d just keep right on doing what he’s doing.

While I hate what is happening to the country I love I must remember that God is soverign and His will for my life to lift up His Son’s name by the power of the Holy Spirit is what really matters. The goal of the first Church was not to fight the sin and ugliness of Rome but to go and make deciples of those in Rome who our Lord was calling to Himself. Until my Lord takes me home I pray that I along with you can have that same focus.

I Tim 6:12 “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

As Jesus did for Jerusalem it is ok for us to weep over America but we must keep the “big picture” in front of us.

Mat 23:37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!”

Jesus is truly coming again and we have a job to do as we await His return. Don’t let the enemy convince you that He will not return or that He has already come. The only way to do that is stay in His word the one source of truth we can trust with our lives!!!!!

John 14:1-3 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

2 Tim 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

57 Cents…..

Luke 21:1 “Then He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into
the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites.

57 Cents…

A sobbing little girl stood near a small church from which she
had been turned away because it was too crowded. “I can’t go to Sunday
School?” she sobbed to the pastor as he walked by.

Seeing her shabby, unkempt appearance, the pastor guessed
the reason and, taking her by the hand, took her inside and found a
place for her in the Sunday school class. The child was so touched that
she went to bed that night thinking of the children who have no place to
worship Jesus.

Some two years later, this child lay dead in one of the poor
tenement buildings and the parents called for the kind hearted pastor,
who had befriended their daughter, to handle the final arrangements.

As her poor little body was being moved, a worn and crumpled
purse was found which seemed to have been rummaged from some
trash dump. Inside was found 57 cents and a note scribbled in childish
handwriting which read, “This is to help build the little church bigger
so more children can go to Sunday school.”

For two years she had saved for this offering of love. When the
pastor tearfully read that note, he knew instantly what he would do.
Carrying this note and the cracked, red pocketbook to the pulpit, he told
the story of her unselfish love and devotion. He challenged his deacons
to get busy and raise enough money for the larger building. But the
story does not end there! A newspaper learned of the story and published it.

It was read by a Realtor who offered them a parcel of land worth
many thousands. When told that the church could not pay so much, he
offered it for 57 cents. Church members made large donations.

Checks came from far and wide. Within five years the little
girl’s gift had increased to $250,000.00–a huge sum for that time (near
the turn of the century).

Philadelphia, look up Temple Baptist Church, with a seating
capacity of 3,300 and Temple University, where hundreds of students
are trained.

Have a look, too, at the Good Samaritan Hospital and at a
Sunday School building which houses hundreds of Sunday Schoolers,
so that no child in the area will ever need to be left outside during
Sunday school time. In one of the rooms of this building may be seen
the picture of the sweet face of the little girl whose 57 cents, so
sacrificially saved, made such remarkable history.

Alongside of it is a portrait of her kind pastor, Dr. Russel H. Conwell,
author of the book, Acres of Diamonds.

A true story, which goes to show WHAT GOD, CAN DO WITH 57 cents.

Luke 21:1-4 “Then He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into
the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites.
So He said, ‘Truly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more
than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but
she out of her poverty has put in all the livelihood that she had’.”
